Photo 5 (489)
A photo of Kris taken on the El Pianista trail.
I used the Measure Tool in GIMP to measure the height of Kris and the length of the cast shadow:
The arrows at the bottom on the left point at the measured values.
We have the following data needed to calculate the time of taking photo 5:
L = 83.0 pixels
H = 476.0 pixels
date = 2014-04-01 (April 1st 2014)
latitude = 8.821247
longitude = -82.421156
time zone = -5
DST = 0 (Daylight Saving Time, there is no DST in Panama)
The results obtained by means of method 1 (here is a description of method 1):
elevation = 80.11 deg. (cell B55 in the spreadsheet)
local time 1 = 13:09:43
azimuth 1 = 245.97 deg.
local time 2 = 11:57:16
azimuth 2 = 114.03 deg.
As usual we obtained two times and two azimuths. We must analyse the direction of the cast shadow to choose the time that fits best. The shadow seems to cast along the track where Kris is standing. I am not sure about the exact place of taking photo 5 so I will present 2 variants of such a place. In each case we can exclude the direction of sunlight perpendicular to the track.
Here is a map with variant 1.
The direction for the time 11:57:16 seems to be perpendicular to the trail so in this case the time 13:09:43 fits better.
Below is a map with variant 2.
In this case the direction for the time 13:09:43 seems to be perpendicular to the trail so the time 11:57:16 fits better. We may conclude that the analysis of the directions gives no indication when photo 5 was taken. Only taking a test photo could resolve this problem.
Here is a map showing the coordinates of the place in photo 5.
The above map is not clear so I prepared the map below showing the place in photo 5.
Finally I present some photos that justify my choice of the place in photo 5. The photo below is from this film (at 1:00). You can see a sign at the start of the forest ahead of the men. That is the sign at the right arm of the man wearing a bright jacket.
This is the sign clearly visible.
The next photo from that film (at 0:47).
Another photo from that film (at 0:48). This is a view that resembles the view in photo 5 but from a different angle.
Another confirmation is on the wikiloc website. That is a photo taken before the forest and it resembles the view in photo 5.
